Man United‘s Premier League opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford is just five days away and Amorim’s new-look frontline is taking shape, but it’s unlikely to include either Fernandes or Sancho on 17 August.

Benjamin Sesko‘s £74million signing from RB Leipzig gives Amorim the out-and-out number nine he wanted, and he’s expected to line up alongside fellow new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Fernandes‘ potential sale had been expected to fund Man United’s expensive acquisitions, but Football Insider revealed on 9 August that Amorim has now shut the door on any prospect of his captain leaving.

The same can’t be said for Sancho after he joined four other out-of-favour players shunned from first-team training, and Man United have come to accept that they’ll have to take an “extraordinary” hit in order to sell the 25-year-old this summer.

Football Insider revealed on 8 August that Saudi Pro League interest in Fernandes has resurfaced from previous suitors Al-Hilal and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, but he looks set to stay put at Old Trafford.

Fernandes was United’s only go-to player last season with 19 goals and 18 assists to carry Amorim‘s side over the line, with the arrivals of Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko set to lift some pressure off his shoulders.

The 30-year-old is set for a full-time role into the midfield two of Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation as a result of this summer’s transfers, and Fernandes posted on Instagram (11 August) ahead of the new campaign.

Fernandes’ off-season highlights reel was captioned with: “Recharged”, and the outcasted Sancho responded with a comment to say; “Hermano”, meaning “brother”.

Football Insider Verdict

Sancho ran out of road at Old Trafford some time ago and Amorim’s stance on the winger’s future this summer has made clear that there is absolutely no way back for the 25-year-old during his tenure.

Dr Dan Plumley told Football Insider last month that Man United want rid of Sancho less for financial reasons than his situation under Amorim, with huge wages already putting paid to a move to Chelsea.

The Blues did all they could to prevent signing Sancho permanently after his loan spell, and with other clubs likely to follow their lead, Man United will have to accept a huge financial hit in order to move their £73m signing on this summer.
