Tottenham midfielder James Maddison shared a emotional message to supporters following their latest win over Villarreal as he continues to recover from injury.
Tottenham beat Villarreal 1-0 in their return to the Champions League on 16 September to continue Thomas Frank’s impressive start in charge.
The only goal of the game came in fortunate fashion as Villarreal goalkeeper Luiz Junior scored an own goal after misjudging Lucas Bergvall’s cross.
There was also controversy in the game as former referee Mark Clattenberg felt Xavi Simons should’ve been sent off for a second yellow card, but the new signing stayed on the pitch.
A teammate watching from the stands was Maddison, who is still recovering from an ACL injury.
The England international has continued to back his teammates throughout his recovery, and after the win, he delivered a message to fans, updating them on his progress.
Maddison posted pictures of himself attending the side’s first game back in the Champions League on Instagram at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

He captioned his post: “Missing it so much.
Long long way to go but I cannot wait to be back out there in that spurs shirt man!”
Plenty of his teammates shared a response to his message with Djed Spence, Dominic Solanke and Radu Dragusin, who is also recovering from injury, all liking the post.

Despite his support from the stands and online, the midfielder may face an FA charge as Maddison lashed out at the officials in the side’s previous game against West Ham.
Still, he remains an important part of the squad and contributed to 12 goals and 11 assists last term under Ange Postecoglou.
The midfielder is expected to miss the majority of the season with the ACL injury he sustained in pre-season, but continues to recover.

Meanwhile, one midfielder who is expected to leave Spurs is Yves Bissouma, following a fallout with Frank.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that West Ham are leading the race to sign Bissouma come the January window, as the Mali international wants to stay in London.
Bissouma has fallen out of favour under Frank and has been criticised by the new Spurs boss for his lateness.
The hierarchy are willing to sanction a sale but will likely have to wait until the next transfer window due to the midfielder’s preference to stay in London.
