James Maddison may have fuelled speculation after his reaction to Conor Gallagher’s latest message amid ongoing transfer talk.
Gallagher joined Atletico Madrid from Chelsea last summer as part of the deal that saw Joao Felix move in the opposite direction, but despite only a year in Spain, he has already been linked with a return to the Premier League.
Tottenham have held long-standing interest in the midfielder, even attempting to hijack his move last year, though they were unsuccessful.
Their pursuit has not gone away, with Football Insider revealing earlier this month that Spurs are preparing a fresh move for Gallagher, who is understood to be open to the idea of coming back to England.
However, they are expected to face competition for his signature.
Amid the continued speculation, Gallagher posted a message on social media, which drew a reaction from Maddison — a player he could yet be lining up alongside in North London.

Gallagher shared a series of Instagram photos showing his latest training sessions and activities off the pitch, as he continues to be included in Diego Simeone’s plans amid transfer speculation.
He captioned the post: “Life lately”, and Maddison appeared to drop a hint by liking the message, fuelling talk of a potential move to Tottenham.

The North London club are not the only ones interested, however, as Football Insider revealed Crystal Palace are also keen on re-signing Gallagher following his successful loan spell back in the 2021/22 season.
Atletico Madrid are likely to demand at least £40 million for the Englishman, and it remains to be seen whether Palace or Tottenham will make a move, especially after Spurs have already secured Joao Palhinha this summer.

Spurs have maintained a focus on midfield reinforcements in the closing days of the transfer window.
After Arsenal hijacked Tottenham’s move for Eberechi Eze, the North London side are considering a hijack of their own.
Football Insider reported on 27 August that Tottenham are weighing a late move to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons, despite Chelsea having been in discussions with the Dutch talent for several weeks.
Thomas Frank remains determined to strengthen the attacking midfield area after losing Maddison to a cruciate ligament injury.
With Simons potentially available, Spurs are exploring the opportunity to move ahead of Chelsea and secure the player before the window closes.
