The former Manchester City and Liverpool player was introduced onto the field around the 60th minute mark and stepped up to take the decisive penalty kick just seven minutes later and made no mistake from the spot.
It was his first goal for Brighton, and it could be a vital one as the Seagulls look to take points off Manchester City.
A feat that would very much be appreciated by Liverpool fans after Erling Haaland’s opener in the first half.
Milner was seen sitting down after scoring his goal and replicating the ‘gamer’ celebration that so many have done since the news of Diogo Jota’s tragic passing.
Diogo Jota was a big fan of video games and was particularly good at FIFA, and he first did the celebration after his dramatic late winner against Spurs in a 4-3 win back in 2023.
James Milner also switched numbers ahead of this season, opting to take Carlos Baleba’s No.20 shirt.
As we know, Diogo Jota wore No.20 for Liverpool, a number that has been retired across all levels of Liverpool Football Club.
A true touch of class shown today from James Milner for his friend and former teammate.
