James Milner says it is time for Liverpool to ‘get over the line’ and ensure the Jurgen Klopp era is defined by winning trophies more than plaudits.

It’s a bitter pill to swallow when you lose the final of the Champions League, and the way we went down.

Klopp’s side took another major step towards their ambition with an impressive Champions League victory over Bayern Munich in midweek, but Milner – who has one more year remaining on his Liverpool deal - wants more than compliments.

The midfielder is desperate for his Anfield career to be decorated with silverware having already swallowed the ‘bitter pill’ of narrow failure since his Anfield move in 2015.

“I have been to three finals since I have been here, lost them all and I am desperate to put that right,” said Milner.

Maybe – hopefully – if we get to the final, we can think about putting it right then.

You know, it’s been so long since we won a league title.
