The Athletic’s James Pearce has provided an update on Liverpool’s reported interest in Gabriel Schluter.
Several names have been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, and Schluter has been one of the most recent players linked with a possible Anfield switch.
Earlier on Friday, news broke that Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Blackpool’s highly rated academy prospect Gabriel Schluter for a six-figure fee.
Schluter operates primarily as a left-sided midfielder or winger.
Standing at 1.78 m and comfortable on his right foot, he has progressed strongly through Blackpool’s youth ranks in recent years.
He was the under-15 Players’ Player of the Year in 2023/24.
In November 2024, he scored twice in the FA Youth Cup against Stockport County.
According to Football Insider, who carried the news, the 16-year-old was “set to undergo a medical on Merseyside next week.”
The report also revealed that Fulham and Stockport County both explored offers to bolster their youth setups, but it is the Reds who have now secured the signing.
However, the reliable James Pearce has seemingly poured cold water on those reports, clarifying that, while Liverpool remain interested in Schluter, they have not yet agreed a deal to bring him to Anfield.
“Liverpool looked at Blackpool teenager Gabriel Schluter and admire him, but told suggestions that a deal to buy him is either done or even close to being done is wide of the mark,” the journalist wrote on X.
Liverpool have been successful in the past in the recruitment of young players from English clubs?
Harvey Elliott is an example of a player they signed that has gone on to feature in the first team.
