Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to Everton’s defeat has ended their Premier League title run.
The Reds endured a disappointing loss away at Goodison Park in Wednesday night’s league clash.
The first half was eventful, with the home side initially awarded a penalty before it was subsequently retracted.
However, Everton managed to break the deadlock when Jarrad Branthwaite forced in an opener after a scramble inside the Reds’ box.
In the second half, Dominic Calvert-Lewin extended Everton’s lead with a header.
Although Liverpool had opportunities to score, including Luis Diaz hitting the woodwork, Jürgen Klopp’s final Merseyside derby ended in defeat for the visitors.
The defeat leaves Klopp’s side trailing three points behind Arsenal in second place with only four games remaining.
Furthermore, Manchester City, who have two games in hand, have the opportunity to leapfrog Liverpool and move two points above them with a victory over Brighton.
Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports: “It’s Everton’s night.
You have to accept that as a Liverpool fan.
“This is the end of the title run for Liverpool.
But tonight is Everton’s night and you have to take it on the chin.”
Carragher added: “The chance Nunez misses is unforgivable at this level.
It’s not acceptable when you’re going for a title.
“I thought Liverpool were in control at the start of the second half and if they got one they’d get two.
But he has been so far off it.”
