Jamie Carragher has named on Liverpool man who he expects to be leaving Anfield this summer.
The club has moved swiftly to strengthen their Premier League title-winning squad, confirming the €35m (£29.5m) signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.
The Dutch right-back, capable of operating as a wing-back or winger, arrives also to offer cover for Mohamed Salah during the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Progress is also advanced on two other high-profile deals: Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.
Leverkusen playmaker Wirtz, valued at €140m–€150m, has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract, while Bournemouth left-back Kerkez is finalizing a £45m move after a “full agreement” on personal terms was reached.
The Hungarian defender’s arrival signals a long-term succession plan for Andy Robertson.
To fund the business, there’s no doubt that the Reds will look to sell assets this summer.
Darwin Nunez is nearing an exit, with Atletico Madrid and Saudi clubs exploring deals for the Uruguayan.
Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has already been announced as a Brentford player, with Liverpool potentially receiving £18 million.
And now Jamie Carragher has named one more Liverpool man he expects to leave this summer.
Carragher, speaking on the Overlap, believes that Liverpool will let go of Kostas Tsimikas as result of the left-back reshuffling.
“Arne Slot is thinking we need to get in the players that are going to play [and be in the starting XI].”
“I think the left-back plays whose coming in.”
“Frimpong will fight with Conor Bradley and have a good chance of playing.”
“We need a left-back?
Robertson needs help on that side and Tsimikas will probably be moved on.”
“I’ve always felt that attacking midfield and left back are the two areas that have jumped out to me over the past 18 months.”
With just 18 Premier League appearances (9 starts) and 833 minutes played, it would be a good move for the Greek international if he wants more football.
The left-back has ranked below Andy Robertson and even Joe Gomez in the defensive pecking order in recent years.
At 29-years-old and with Kerkez’s arrival seemingly evitable, the Greek Scouser may have to seek pastures anew this summer.
