Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville dismissed the argument that Alexander Isak is the best striker in the Premier League, after Erling Haaland scored an opening-day brace against Wolves.
The Manchester City star has been a prolific goalscorer since the very start of his career, and since joining City in the summer of 2022, he has plundered 86 goals in 98 league appearances.
Isak also moved to the Premier League in 2022, joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad, and he has scored at an impressive rate for the Magpies amid continued transfer links to Liverpool.
However, his record of 54 goals in 86 league appearances is not quite as brilliant as Haaland's — although Isak's form last season led to some anointing him the best striker in the league.

Isak tallied one more league goal than Haaland in three more appearances than his fellow Scandinavian, but Haaland scored more goals and at a more frequent rate in all competitions.
Isak is undoubtedly brilliant, but Neville and Carragher clearly feel that he has some way to go before he can be regarded as the best striker in England.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: "In the last year or so, it has become that Isak is the best striker, or all-round striker because Haaland just scores goals and it is a bit of a one-trick pony
He is not, he is the best center forward in the Premier League.
"I know he doesn't always get involved and he is about goals mainly, but his numbers are off the scale."
Neville added: "Haaland is the best center forward
Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland are two of the best strikers in the Premier League
Isak continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool ahead of the closure of the summer transfer window in just under a fortnight's time.
The striker was absent from the Newcastle squad as Eddie Howe's side drew 0-0 with Aston Villa on Saturday, and he has not trained with his teammates since before the club's pre-season tour of China, which began almost a month ago.
Isak is desperately trying to push through a move to Liverpool, but Newcastle is unwilling to sell the striker without sourcing a replacement.
Newcastle is keen to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford, and Wissa has taken a similarly stubborn stance to Isak in trying to force a move away from his current club.
Wissa, who did not feature for Brentford during pre-season and was absent as the Bees lost to Nottingham Forest over the weekend, removed all association with the West London club from his Instagram account on Monday in an apparent show of frustration over Brentford's reluctance to sell him.
