Jamie Carragher has provided Liverpool with a points target that he believes would see the club win the Premier League.
The Reds are preparing to return to league action and resume their title run-in against Brighton on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp’s side are second in the table, behind leaders Arsenal on goal difference and a point ahead of Manchester City in a title race that threatens to go down to the wire.
Liverpool will hope to ramp up the pressure with a win as Man City prepare to host Arsenal on Sunday in a clash that could indirectly boost the Reds’ title hopes.
“That would mean Liverpool dropping four points from where they are, that would be City dropping four points.
“I actually think everyone is looking at Arsenal’s fixtures and thinking, ‘I could see Arsenal dropping more than four points’ with the away games that you’ve got.
Winning [against Man City] and the belief it would give [Arsenal] in the other away games if you can go to City and win, you’ll believe you can go to Old Trafford and win, you’ll believe you you can go to Tottenham and win.”
Liverpool may not face a team in the title race during their remaining games but will have away games against rivals Manchester United and Everton, as well as facing Champions League-chasing Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
By Carragher’s calculations, Liverpool could finish first with seven wins and two draws from their last nine matches.
The match between Man City and Arsenal could also alter the dynamics of the title picture.
Current leaders Arsenal will hope to do the double over Man City, but still have games against Man United, Spurs and Villa on their fixture list.
