Jamie Carragher has hit out at some of the reaction after Trent Alexander-Arnold confirmed he will be leaving Liverpool, with the former defender taking aim at some of the Reds’ rivals.
The Reds’ vice-captain has announced his decision to leave Anfield at the end of his contract this summer, bringing an end to a 20-year association with his boyhood club.
It has inevitably drawn a strong response from supporters, many of whom have been unhappy with silence Alexander-Arnold has employed throughout the season, as well as the fact he will be leaving his boyhood club without securing any sort of transfer fee for it.
Liverpool fans though have been met with backlash from other corners of the soccer world though.
Paul Merson and Rio Ferdinand have been among some of the bigger names to criticize the reaction from the Reds’ supporters recently, with others piling on after Alexander-Arnold’s announcement.
Carragher though has hit out at that criticism, insisting that Liverpool fans shouldn’t be told how to feel about the right-back’s departure.

“There’s this thing that I’ve been reading throughout the day, obviously when the news breaks,” Carragher said ahead of appearing on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“You’ve got the reaction of Liverpool supporters, which are different
I’m probably one of the ones who are somewhere in the middle.
“But I’m sick all day of reading about journalists, or other people who have got no affiliation to Liverpool, telling Liverpool supporters how they should feel.
Liverpool as a city and football club is very emotional, and that’s what makes us what we are, and that’s why you see the scenes that you saw last week when Liverpool won the league.
“You don’t really see scenes for a team winning the league, because we are emotional, football means a lot to us.
