Jamie Carragher has named one player he would take from Manchester United if presented the opportunity to do so.
The Liverpool vs Manchester United rivalry is one of football’s most intense, spanning over a century.
Dubbed the ‘Northwest Derby’, this mouthwatering fixture comes around so soon after the FA Cup disappointment last month.
The Reds will travel to face Erik Ten Hag’s men at Old Trafford on April 7 in a crucial Premier League clash during Klopp’s final season at the helm.
The Liverpool players should be aiming for redemption after succumbing to a late FA Cup quarter-final defeat on the eve of the March international break.
This time, there will undoubtedly be more on the line as Liverpool look to extend their position at the summit of the Premier League table.
Jurgen Klopp was the biggest winner of this past weekend after Arsenal and Manchester City played out a goalless stalemate at the Etihad on Sunday.
Jamie Carragher picks Manchester United player for Liverpool squad
Previewing the clash this Sunday on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher was quizzed on who he’d take at Liverpool from the current crop of United players.
It has been a largely underwhelming season for the Red Devils and have a serious fight to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Somewhat predicatbly, Carragher went for Kobbie Mainoo – whose enjoyed a breakout season for both club and country:
“I think I would probably take the young kid, Mainoo,” he said.
“Mainoo, his age, number one.
He could go on to be a real superstar.”
“I’m trying to think of who else in the United team is better than a Liverpool player in their position really.”
Prior to this season, Kobbie Mainoo has only made three appearances for United in the first team
However, he now made 15 Premier League appearances at 18 years of age.
He has already earned his first England caps in the recent England fixtures against Brazil and Belgium, with Curtis Jones unlucky to be injured during this March international break.
This coming Sunday’s clash against Manchester United will no doubt be a big step to see if Liverpool can win this year’s Premier League.
