Harvey Elliott’s time at Liverpool looks set to come to an end after he completed a loan-to-buy move to Aston Villa.
The 22-year-old’s future has been subject to huge speculation over the course of this summer’s transfer window, with his displays for England at the Under-21 Euros leading Liverpool to demand huge money.
Football Insider revealed on 9 August that offers over £40million would tempt Liverpool into a sale amid interest from Tottenham and RB Leipzig, but Aston Villa launched a late surge to win the race for Elliott.
Aston Villa agreed loan deals for both Elliott and Jadon Sancho as well as blocking Leeds’ move for Emi Buendia to bolster Unai Emery’s squad even further, as the Liverpool midfielder arrives on loan with an obligation to buy.

Elliott’s obligation to move to Villa Park permanently is dependent on appearances, but a £35million fee is likely to be triggered after Emery’s side accelerated transfer talks with Liverpool early on deadline day.
Liverpool’s deadline day business was dominated by the Reds sealing the signing of Alexander Isak for a British record £125m fee, and that vast outlay will be recouped in some part by Elliott’s permanent exit.
With his departure from Anfield signed and sealed, Elliott posted on Instagram with a farewell message to Liverpool fans, thanking them for their “incredible” support as well as his team-mates and managers.

Football Insider Verdict
Liverpool were expected to sell Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Elliott in order to fund their record-breaking move for Isak this summer, and the latter’s deadline-day exit completed those plans at the eleventh hour.
Marc Guehi‘s last-ditch move from Crystal Palace to Anfield may have collapsed after an ultimatum from Oliver Glasner on his own future, but that still leaves the path clear for Liverpool to sign him next summer.
Next summer is also likely to see Elliott complete his £35m move within the 2025–26 accounting period, and with regular game-time under his belt at Aston Villa, who knows how much progress he’ll have made by then.
