Jamie Carragher has been discussing Xabi Alonso and his chances of persuading his former teammates to take the job at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp shocked the world last month when he announced his intention to step down as Liverpool manager come the end of the season.

But not only are Liverpool are on the prowl for a new manager, but Bayern Munich too.

The Bavarian outfit announced earlier this week that they would be parting ways with Thomas Tuchel come the end of the season.

There has been plenty of news around the record German champion’s interest in the Spaniard in light of Tuchel leaving at the end of the season.

Although they have identified Alonso as their ‘Plan A’ option, they are aware of Liverpool’s interest.

Furthermore, it is not a guarantee that the Spaniard will even leave Leverkusen at the end of the season.

Xabi Alonso is watching Jamie Carragher

Nonetheless, Jamie Carragher has discussed Xabi Alonso as part of his duties as a CBS pundit covering the Champions League this week.

When asked about persuading Alonso about succeeding Klopp at Liverpool, he said:

“He’s watching all of my Instagram stories!”

“We’ll get to the March international break and we’ll see what’s going on.”

Hopefully Jamie Carragher is doing his best to persuade his former teammate to come to Anfield.

The pair played together at Anfield from 2004 – 2009 before Alonso moved to Real Madrid.

Carragher actually ranks 5th out of Xabi Alonso’s teammates with the most games together – with the two playing 199 games together for the Reds.

Speaking previously about the 42-year-old, Carragher said:

“Listen, you could see straight away [at Liverpool] he was a real football lover.”

“And he wasn’t just a great player, he was always interested in tactics and he had a great idea about football at a young age and I think that has helped him really.”

“Liverpool fans aren’t daft and they fell in love with him straight away as a player and they could see what he was about.”

“When he came he moved into the centre and into the Albert Dock and he wanted to immerse himself into the city.”

“So he is a good guy, down to earth who doesn’t get too carried away.”
