Jamie Carragher has picked his preferred winner for the potential title six-pointer that will kick-off at the Etihad this weekend.
Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal are in a three-way battle to win the Premier League this year.
The three teams have been the best performers in England this season, and their positions in the table reflect this.
Collectively, the trio are all within one point of each other at the time of writing and will all be vying for the championship until the bitter end.
The onus is on Liverpool and Arsenal to break Manchester City’s stranglehold on the division, with the Reds being the only club besides Man City to win the Premier League since the 2018/19 season.
Speaking in the beginning of March, Gary Neville highlighted the advantages all three teams have heading into the run-in:
“Liverpool have got momentum and energy – and the Klopp factor.”
“Arsenal at this moment are the best-performing team, defensively and they’ve now started to hit their stride in attack.”
“City have got the most experience.
All three have got something.”
Of course, plenty of Liverpool fans will be curious onlookers when Arsenal travel to face Manchester City at the Etihad this coming weekend.
The Gunners already beat the Cityzens in the reverse fixture earlier this season, and now Jamie Carragher has provided his take on who he’d like to see win on Sunday.
What did Jamie Carragher say?
The former Liverpool man discussed the game on The Overlap (via the Boot Room), where he explained that Arsenal losing would put them out the title race – while a City loss would be a dent in their hopes:
“I totally agree with you, my point being that if City lost on Sunday they can still win the league, but if Arsenal lose I don’t see how they can win the league.”
“From a Liverpool perspective surely you want City to lose, but City can win the league if they get beat and I don’t see Arsenal winning the league if they get beat.”
“Then from a Liverpool perspective you’re fighting against one team.”
“I know the points aren’t that much, but psychologically it would affect you,” Carragher said.
Carragher raises a fair point, it would hard to see Arsenal win the title if they were to lose on Sunday.
But that opens up the question as to whether the Gunners are even Liverpool’s main threat to giving Jurgen Klopp the send-off he deserves.
If Arsenal do win, then I’m sure Jurgen Klopp and co
will be happier knowing how perfect City become towards the end of the season.
