Jamie Carragher has revealed why he doesn’t want Liverpool to sign Alexander Isak this summer.
The situation surrounding the Swede has been in flux over the last week or so, with Newcastle desperate to sign his replacement.
However, Eddie Howe’s side have already failed in their pursuit of luring Benjamin Sesko to St James’ Park, with
Meanwhile, Isak himself is growing impatient.
As first revealed by DaveOCKOP.com, the Sweden international has signalled his intent to submit a formal transfer request if the deal does not accelerate.
On Friday, the Reds made an offer in the region of £110m.
It was dismissed by the Magpies hierarchy, and while plenty of reports claimed that another bid was not forthcoming, DaveOCKOP.com exclusively revealed that Liverpool would be putting together another bid down the line.
Speaking on the Overlap this week, Carragher weighed in on the Alexander Isak speculation and claimed that Isak is not worth £150 million:
“In terms of what Liverpool have done in the summer by bringing in players, they’ve spent a lot of money and it doesn’t feel like the Liverpool way of doing things so much – or certainly if you listen to some supporters who have been on the owner’s case for so long!”
“He [Alexander Isak] will be an amazing signing, but from a fan’s point of view for myself, I don’t want Liverpool to spend £150 million on Isak.”
The Liverpool legend added that “something doesn’t feel right” after already splashing the cash out for Hugo Ekitike and even claims that the situation has not been planned for:
“Something about it doesn’t feel right to me.
I know Liverpool need numbers, for a number of reasons, at the top of the pitch.”
“I look at Isak, and he’s obviously thrown his toys out the pram once Arsenal signed a striker and Liverpool signed a striker?
It feels a bit messy to me now.”
“For me, when I think of Liverpool, it doesn’t look really planned – I don’t think the plan is to buy a striker for £80 million, and then be looking to buy another one for £120 million.”
