Jamie Carragher has questioned Gareth Southgate's use of 'special talent' Phil Foden and compared his England troubles to that of John Barnes.
Foden is yet to start for England in the World Cup and has racked up just 19 minutes off the bench between the opening two matches.
Writing in his column for the Telegraph, former Liverpool captain Carragher believes it was 'strange' of Southgate to turn to his bench and not back Foden to make an impact.
Foden has seven goals and three assists in 14 Premier League games and has arguably been the best English player so far this season.

"If you had told me before the tournament that Foden would only feature for 19 minutes of the first two World Cup games, my initial thought would be he must be injured," Carragher wrote.
The winger's lack of influence in the England squad is particularly strange given his domestic form.
"Foden has had plenty of opportunities for England, so it is not as if Southgate has ignored him," Carragher continued.
