Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has fired a message to Virgil van Dijk and his Premier League title-winning teammates ahead of their much-anticipated trophy lift on Sunday.

Almost a month after clinching the title in their emphatic 5-1 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur, they will get their hands on the silverware after their encounter with Crystal Palace.

Fittingly, the latest landmark on the Liverpool honours board lands on the anniversary of their famous win over AC Milan in the Champions League final in 2005.

Since winning the Premier League at Anfield against the North London club, Arne Slot's side have managed just one point, but it hasn't dampened the mood after receiving a guard of honour against Chelsea, Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Crystal Palace will also follow the mark of respect in the curtain closer for the campaign, but eyes are already on the full-time whistle and the title party officially getting underway, with a host of dress rehearsals in the weeks leading up to May 25.

Carragher was a key figure in the Liverpool side that rewrote the history books after that famous night in Istanbul, and on its 20th anniversary, the former defender called on the current crop of Anfield heroes to bask in their achievement.

"Twenty years ago today since ‘The Miracle of Istanbul’," he tweeted.

"A message to Virgil & the boys, make sure you enjoy today because before you know it, it’ll be twenty years later."

Slot joins an exclusive group of managers to win the Premier League in his first season but he is in his own league after becoming the first Dutch tactician to lift the title.

While Carragher calls for the players the enjoy it, the question surrounding the new group of Premier League winners at Anfield is if they can go on to build a dynasty.

And the Dutchman says while they have to compete next season, whether they have the elite mentality to do so remains to be unknown and will stay that way until they reconvene for their preparations in July.

"We have to compete next season again but what I don't know yet, and that is going to be interesting one, if we have this elite mentality, this serial winner mentality of showing up season-after-season-after-season," Slot said.

"I think I will get the answer on July 8 when we come back together to see what shape the players are in.

"Many teams have won the Premier League once but not many have won them multiple seasons in a row and that's for a reason, firstly it's so difficult but second of all, not every player has this elite mentality.

"We talk about Mo and there's no coincidence that he is already on a certain level.

"Last season, he was the most fittest when we arrived back after the break, that is a mentality that you need to have to have a chance of becoming a serial winner.

"It's something we have to prove and the players as well during the off-season.

"The first day for me to judge, if we have a chance to become serial winners, is July 8 when I see them back."
