Jamie Carragher says Liverpool supporters have every right to feel let down by Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure.
And the former Reds centre-back - who played his entire career at Anfield - believes that the 26-year-old will now become a rival and suffer the same fate as Michael Owen, who also swapped Liverpool for Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold is now set to seal a move to the Bernabeu after announcing his decision to leave Liverpool when his contract expires on June 30.
Carragher has responded to criticism of Liverpool fans for their anger at Alexander-Arnold's decision to leave and, writing in his Telegraph column, says it's natural for supporters to feel frustrated when homegrown talent leaves.

He said: "Liverpool fans are being told their reaction to Alexander-Arnold leaving is emotional more than sensible.
"My response to that is who is really the naive and deluded one when analysing how fans feel about such transfers?
"Would Manchester United have been happy to see Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes leave in their prime for Real Madrid?
If that image of the home-grown talent living the dream is an illusion, people feel let down."
Carragher says Alexander-Arnold is undermining Liverpool's attempts to add to the 20th league title that was confirmed last week when Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 5-1 at Anfield.
The Sky Sports pundit believes that Alexander-Arnold will see his legacy go the same way as that of Owen's, who has found Anfield affection hard to come by despite spending the best years of his career at Liverpool.
And he has warned the West Derby-born right-back that he will receive the same treatment that greeted Luis Suarez when Barcelona arrived on Merseyside and were beaten 4-0 in 2019.
He said: "Liverpool are in the business of winning more Premier League and Champions League titles.
You may not agree, or believe that competitive attitude to the loss of a star player is justified, but it is what makes Liverpool the successful club it is, and it is no different than what you would expect at Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Manchester United.
"By leaving Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold is making it harder for his own club to win its 21st league title and seventh European Cup.
That is bound to stir emotions.
"As a Champions League and double Premier League winner, Alexander-Arnold will always be an Anfield legend.
Part of me thinks “well done” but the competitive element in me also thinks swapping Liverpool red for Real Madrid white means he has chosen to become a rival.
