Jamie Carragher posted a heartfelt message on social media following after the shocking incident that saw a car plough into a crowd during Liverpool's Premier League victory parade.
The Reds celebrated their title triumph with an open-top bus through the city on Bank Holiday Monday but four children were among almost 50 injured during the incident on Water Street.
Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said the Bank Holiday Monday incident was not being treated as terrorism and was believed to be an isolated incident following the arrest of a 53-year-old man at the scene.
The force said the suspect was the driver of the car, white, British and from the Liverpool area.
Carragher, deeply affected, took to his social platforms to express his shock and extend his thoughts to those impacted.
Accompanying a snap of the iconic Liver Building bathed in red flare smoke from earlier in the day, Carragher penned: "Devastating end to the day.........just pray everyone is ok."
