Jamie Carragher ripped into one Burnley star for his “brain dead” moment in the build up to Liverpool’s penalty that sealed three points for Arne Slot’s side.

Burnley had defended well throughout the game, holding off Liverpool’s relentless attacking force, that was particularly intense in the second half.

Liverpool started the game by hitting headlines due to Alexander Isak’s omission from Arne Slot’s matchday squad.

However, Carragher ripped into Burnley star Hannibal Mejbri for his handball that lead to Liverpool earning the late penalty that won Slot’s side the three points.

Absolutely brain dead,” as footage was replayed of the handball.

He added: “With one minute to go, you just can’t comprehend,” Carragher continued, before highlighting how it’s the second time in two matches that Burnley have been let down by a late penalty, with the same happening against Manchester United, two weeks ago.

Liverpool relied on more late drama to seal their fourth win of the season, keeping their perfect Premier League start alive.

Slot’s defending champions have looked for late heroics in all three of their victories so far this season, with Federico Chiesa, Rio Ngumoha, and Dominik Szoboszlai giving Liverpool the lead late in their past three games.

Similarly to their match against Burnley, Liverpool were poor in those three matches but Slot’s side have made a habit of pulling through when it counts late on.

It hasn’t always been pretty, but Slot’s side have shown they’re made of stern stuff, as they aim to retain their Premier League crown this season.
