Serie A outfit Cremonese have emerged as a surprise candidate to sign free agent Jamie Vardy this summer.
Vardy is without a club following the expiry of his Leicester City contract, bringing an end to his 13-year association with the club — which yielded 200 goals in 500 appearances, as well as Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield and Championship (x2) titles.
Old Firm duo Celtic and Rangers have been linked with Vardy, while a shock move to Arsenal has also been suggested following Kai Havertz’s injury.
But now, there’s new competition on the scene.

According to Sky Sports‘ Italian football expert Mina Rzouki, newly-promoted Serie A side Cremonese are eyeing Vardy up as a possible budget-friendly striker (26 August).
However, the chances of La Cremo actually landing Vardy seem slim.
“I would be shocked if Jamie Vardy joins Cremonese.
Cremonese are working with a very tight budget,” Rzouki said.

“They were the last team to be promoted to Serie A.
They are looking for a striker, and obviously, he fits the bill.”
She added: “Is that what Vardy wants?
Whether or not he agrees to the situation remains to be seen.”

Rumours of Vardy moving to Celtic have persisted all summer, and they make a lot of sense given the lack of natural centre-forward options at Parkhead — not to mention his history with manager Brendan Rodgers.
However, any move for the ex-England international is some way off, with Football Insider transfer expert Pete O’Rourke revealing a deal is ‘not as advanced as suggested’, with Celtic waiting to see if they reach the Champions League group stage before making their next move.
Vardy himself, though, remains open to a move to Scotland, according to former Premier League scout Mick Brown.
The ex-Manchester United scout told Football Insider the Hoops would be a good fit for Vardy, and that the veteran seems open to the move.
Alongside Vardy, Celtic have also been linked to Feyenoord winger Calvin Stengs, while Michel-Ange Balikwisha is nearing a move from Antwerp.
