Andy Halliday is not convinced with the prospect of Rangers signing Jamie Vardy and has shot down comparisons to his former Ibrox teammate Jermain Defoe.

The 38-year-old is weighing up his options this summer after his contract with Leicester City following a 13-year spell with the Foxes where he bagged 200 goals in 500 matches, including 24 strikes during their unprecedented Premier League title success in 2015/16.

Vardy is said to have a number of options on the table and reportedly believes he still has what it takes to compete in England's top tier, having netted nine times despite Leicester's relegation last season.

Defoe was 37 when he headed north of the border to Ibrox from Bournemouth on an initial loan deal in January 2019 but current Motherwell midfielder Halliday has described comparisons between the duo as 'mental'.

And the footballer/pundit is in no doubt about who he would sign for Rangers if they came down to a shootout between Vardy and one other veteran with history in the English Premier League.

Speaking on Open Goal, he said: "Vardy is 38.

I know people compare him to Jermain Defoe but Jermain was vegan for 20 years and Vardy has Red Bulls for breakfast!

The comparison is mental.

"My thing about Vardy is, and he's obviously a top striker who I am not saying you wouldn't sign, but he's all about running into space in behind.

You'll be playing against teams (at Rangers) who defend on the edge of the box.

"Where as Rangers have been linked with Luuk de Jong from PSV and out of them two, de Jong would make more sense."

Another Premier League stalwart who is on the lookout for a new club is Jordan Henderson.

The former Liverpool captain is a free agent after agreeing to mutually terminate his contract with Dutch giants Ajax.

Henderson joined the Eredivisie side in January 2024 following a dismal six-month stint under Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq and was a part of the Ajax side that bottled the chance to claw the league championship back from PSV last season.

The 35-year-old was linked with Gers earlier this summer as a number two to Gerrard prior to Russell Martin landing the top job.

A return to boyhood club Sunderland has also been mooted, and with the midfielder seemingly keen to continue his playing career Portuguese giants Porto have now emerged as a surprise contender to secure his signature.

That's according to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, who claim that Henderson could once again link up with Italian coach Francesco Farioli, who has been appointed as the new boss of Porto after leaving Ajax in June.
