Former Norway international Jan Åge Fjørtoft says that Ralf Rangnick is set to become the new manager of Bayern Munich ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Last week, Rangnick confirmed that he had been approached by the Bundesliga club regarding the managerial position.
Bayern Munich are seeking Rangnick to succeed the current manager, Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel is poised to depart Bayern at the end of the season following a disappointing campaign.
The club’s failure to secure a 12th consecutive Bundesliga title has underscored Tuchel’s decision to leave.
However, Bayern Munich remain in contention for this season’s Champions League, having drawn 2-2 with Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
The club believes that Rangnick possesses the capability to rejuvenate success at Bayern, especially after their streak of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles was halted by Bayer Leverkusen this season.
Rangnick is reportedly intrigued by the prospect of assuming the role, viewing it as an opportunity to instigate change during a period of uncertainty within the club.
In a statement last week, he emphasized that his decision-making process will not be influenced by financial factors.
“That doesn’t matter to me at all,” said Rangnick.
“For me it’s about other things: can I make a difference.
We are completely focused on the European Championship.”
According to Åge Fjørtoft, Bayern are expected to officially announce the appointment of Rangnick as their new manager by Thursday.
“Rangnick will be the next coach at Bayern.
But getting “little by little closer” as I am told,” he posted on X.
“Been also told that an official announcement “earliest Thursday”.
Rangnick has an extensive managerial career, including a six-month interim stint as the manager of Manchester United during the 2021-22 season.
Additionally, he has held managerial positions at Ulm, Stuttgart, Hannover, Hoffenheim, Schalke, and RB Leipzig.
