Jarell Quansah earned widespread praise following an impressive first appearance for Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend.
The defender left Liverpool for a fee of £35million ($47M/€40M) earlier this summer and is set for a significant role at Leverkusen this season after playing a backup role under Arne Slot.
“It’s a really positive start in my career here,” Quansah said after the game
But there are lots of things to improve on and I’m sure game by game we will get better, with fitness and how we click together.”
Meanwhile, supporters on social media raved about the 22-year-old’s classy first outing in a Leverkusen jersey.
“Send Liverpool another 40 million we absolutely robbed them,” said one fan on social media
“Really liked him he was like a wall,” added another.
Sami Hyypia, who also played for Liverpool and Leverkusen during his playing career, feels the regular minutes will have an immediate benefit for Quansah.
“I think it is good for Jarell to play every week,” the 51-year-old told the Liverpool ECHO earlier this week.
“He is in that age where he needs to play every week and probably if he stayed here that wouldn’t be possible.
“I heard that we have a buyback clause, so when he is playing every week and he develops, I think we can [bring him back]
“For younger players that can be a little bit overwhelming and you are trying too hard and you are maybe a little bit too nervous in that situation and you don’t get the level that you can perform.”
Having progressed through the Liverpool youth system, Quansah played 58 times for Liverpool, including 25 appearances last season.
