In a season marked by stellar defensive performances, one name stands out among the emerging talents in European football – Jarell Quansah.

Quansah has been turning heads with his remarkable displays, leading the charts in defensive statistics among Under-21 players across Europe’s top leagues.

Hailing from Warrington, the 21-year-old has been a part of the Liverpool Academy since the age of five.

As an England U19 international, he showcases comfort on the ball and remarkable pace.

In the 2021/22 season, he was twice named an unused substitute for the senior Reds team, notably against Tottenham in the Premier League and Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

Ending the campaign on a high note, he played a pivotal role in England’s victory at the UEFA U19 European Championship.

Throughout the summer tournament, Quansah featured in every game, scoring in the semi-finals and providing a crucial assist in the final as the Young Lions secured a 3-1 win over Israel.

Taking another stride in his development, Quansah made a memorable senior debut for Liverpool in August 2023, contributing as a substitute in the thrilling 2-1 comeback win against Newcastle United.

He has since racked up 30 appearances and made four goal contributions across all competitions this season for Liverpool who have already won the Carabao Cup after beating Chelsea in the final.

According to Wyscout, Quansah leads the way in U21 impressive defensive stat across Europe’s top five leagues this season.

He is ranked first with 78.6%, followed by Chadi Riad ((77.7%) from Real Betis and Jarrad Branthwaite (76%) from Everton.

Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquer (75.6%) and Maxime Estève (71.9%) from Montpellier complete the top five.

Jarell Quansah who has had an outstanding breakthrough season at Anfield, earning the trust of Jurgen Klopp, is poised for a significant role under incoming boss Arne Slot.

The England U-21 international is set to secure a lucrative long-term contract extension by the end of the season, according to the Mirror.

Despite signing a new deal just a year ago, the Reds are prepared to offer him a substantial pay-rise due to his commendable performance at the back, where he has excelled alongside captain Virgil van Dijk.
