Jarell Quansah has been on an extreme upwards trajectory over the last three seasons.
On 20th January 2023, Quansah joined Bristol Rovers on loan until the end of the season.
He enjoyed a successful loan spell with the club, leading Rovers’ manager Joey Barton to predict that Quansah was destined for the top level of the game, highlighting his ability on the ball as a key asset.
Fast forward to the start of the 2023/24 season, Quansah made his professional debut for Liverpool as he came on for Joel Matip in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United.
He went on to start 13 of the 17 appearances he made for Liverpool that season, earning himself a new long-term contract with the club in October of 2024.
He has been limited to less opportunities under Arne Slot, as the Dutchman came in and quickly chose his strongest eleven and rarely deviated from it.
News linking him to a move to Bayer Leverkusen emerged during the extended tussle between the Bundesliga side and Liverpool for the signing of Florian Wirtz.
It was reported in early June that Jarell Quansah was on Leverkusen’s list of targets for the centre-back position, but Liverpool rate him highly and are not actively looking to sell him.
But, whilst away on international duty with England ahead of the U21 European Championship, Jarell Quansah has lifted the lid on what he thinks about his future.
“It’s definitely developing.
I’m not getting too high or too low with anything.”
“I think I can take massive learnings from the three seasons I’ve had in professional football.
From Bristol Rovers until now, to put perspective and look back I’m in a very good position to take the next step.
“
“It comes with working hard and staying focused on what I can control.”
Actively saying that he is ready for the next step is rather vague but could lean towards Jarell Quansah viewing his future elsewhere.
On the other hand, it could be that he aims to work himself back into Arne Slot’s side and become a key part of the squad’s future under him.
This transfer window continues to be a fascinating one to watch, as players could come and go and others make decisions on their future.
A period of transition awaits for Liverpool.
