Liverpool have officially confirmed Jarell Quansah’s departure as the 22-year-old embarks on a new chapter in the Bundesliga (via Liverpool FC).

Bayer Leverkusen announced the centre-back’s arrival on a five-year deal running until 2030, completing a transfer worth £30 million plus £5 million in add-ons.

Quansah’s decision came after careful consideration and first-hand experience facing Leverkusen last season.

He explained to the German club’s media team the experience that left a lasting impression.

Quansah said in an interview with Bayer Leverkusen (via reports by Daveockop),

“I got a good impression of the team and the club when we played Leverkusen with LFC in the Champions League last season,”

“They’re a great team – they played the first 60 minutes like no other team at Anfield Road.”

Those memories, paired with detailed talks about the project under Erik ten Hag, convinced Quansah this was the right environment to develop further.

“It’s a great task and challenge for me to become part of Leverkusen’s current new beginning.”

Liverpool, meanwhile, secured a buy-back clause that becomes active in 2027.

The arrangement guarantees the club the option to bring Quansah back for a fixed fee above €60 million if he flourishes in Germany.

After more than 50 senior appearances and a Premier League title, the Academy graduate leaves Anfield with a strong legacy and plenty of respect from supporters who watched him rise from a five-year-old at Kirkby to a full England U21 international.
