Jarell Quansah reflected on a challenging afternoon as Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw against West Ham United, emphasizing the need for improvement to conclude the season on a high note.
The Reds experienced frustration at the London Stadium on Saturday, as Michail Antonio’s late equalizer denied them the opportunity to secure three points in the Premier League.
Jürgen Klopp’s men found themselves trailing at halftime against West Ham due to Jarrod Bowen’s header.
However, they mounted a strong comeback in the second half, taking the lead with Andy Robertson’s equalizer and an own goal from Hammers goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
Unfortunately, Antonio’s 77th-minute header leveled the score, denying the visitors victory.
“It’s a tough game to reflect on straight away,” Quansah told Liverpoolfc.com.
“I thought we played well in the first half but it was disappointing to then be a goal down.
But we came out fighting [in the] second half with aggression and everything we needed really.
“It was just a shame they got their second goal?
There’s stuff to reflect on and improve on, especially for myself.”
He added: “We knew that [West Ham were a threat from crosses] coming into the game and it’s disappointing conceding them, set-pieces especially and allowing crosses, but when they come in we’ve got to be more aggressive and got to attack them more.
“We can definitely look to that and try to improve on it.”
Reflecting on the game afterward, Jarell Quansah acknowledged the result as a bitter pill to swallow.
However, he emphasized the team’s determination to ensure that the remaining three games of the 2023-24 season against Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Wolverhampton Wanderers are marked by positive performances.
“[We will] just [do it] like we’ve always done and just try to win every game we can.
“That’s all we can do really, keep trying to play our way and keep doing everything we can to finish the season well and give the gaffer a good send-off.”
