Callum Wilson and Jarrod Bowen both played starring roles as West Ham United got off the mark against Nottingham Forest.
West Ham began the new Premier League season with back-to-back losses to Sunderland and Chelsea by respective 3-0 and 5-1 scorelines, but it was their turn to inflict a heavy defeat themselves on Sunday.
Graham Potter‘s side put Nottingham Forest to the sword at the City Ground to record a 3-0 victory, and Lucas Paqueta reaffirmed his commitment to West Ham after heightened speculation over his future.
Paqueta’s goal celebration and subsequent message grabbed the headlines as West Ham look set to retain one of their star players beyond the end of the transfer window, but Bowen and new signing Wilson also came to the fore.

Football Insider revealed on 31 August that West Ham could reluctantly accept bids for Paqueta before the end of the window, but the Brazilian’s celebration suggests that he intents to stay put in East London.
Paqueta will remain part of Potter’s attacking setup at the London Stadium for the forseeable future, and the West Ham boss will be keen for Bowen and Wilson to link up with his number 10 as often as possible.
After Bowen had put West Ham in front with a sumptuous volley at the City Ground and Paqueta doubled their lead from the spot, second-half substitute Wilson stole in ahead of Bowen to head home their third.

The ex-Newcastle striker posted on Instagram after scoring his first Hammers goal on Sunday, and said: “+3 & off the mark – We needed that after a tough start to the season.
Safe travels home, Hammers”.
Bowen, who was beaten to El Hadji Malick Diouf‘s cross by Wilson for West Ham’s third goal, responded to the Irons’ new number nine and said: “happy for you brother, still need words though”.

Football Insider Verdict
Wilson’s first goal in claret and blue capped off a much-needed victory for Potter’s side, who had spent over £55million two days prior to their clash with Forest on Mateus Fernandes and Soungoutou Magassa.
Further additions are expected despite Nottingham Forest hijacking West Ham’s move for John Victor, but Mads Hermansen‘s maiden clean sheet for the Irons will surely lessen the need for a new goalkeeper.
Potter still faces pressure to avoid results and performances in the manner of their losses to Chelsea and Sunderland in the weeks prior, but the signs are positive for West Ham with Bowen, Wilson and Paqueta at the forefront.
