Jeremie Frimpong has been backed to improve on the previous "big weakness" of Trent Alexander-Arnold and bolster Liverpool's rearguard.
Frimpong became Liverpool's first signing of the summer when he completed a £29million move from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month.
The Reds swooped for the 24-year-old Holland international - who can play in various positions down the right flank - after Alexander-Arnold confirmed he would not sign a new contract at Anfield this summer, with the England international then joining Real Madrid in a deal worth £10m to Liverpool.
And ex-Reds right-back Markus Babbel is convinced Frimpong will become an integral player under Arne Slot.

“Jeremie Frimpong is a different kind of right-back to Trent Alexander-Arnold,” said Babbel.
“Trent is unbelievable with the ball – Frimpong is also good on the ball, but not in the same style as Trent.
“The main strength of Frimpong is that he is very fast – he is one of the quickest players in the Bundesliga – and he can play on the wing as well as in defence.
I would say defensively, he is better than Trent; that has been a big weakness for Trent in the past.

“Frimpong has been one of the main players for Bayer Leverkusen in the past couple of seasons and I think he is going to become a top player for Liverpool.
It’s a very good signing for them.”
Babbel, who won the cup treble with Liverpool in 2001, admits he was upset to see Alexander-Arnold join Real Madrid and has questioned the decision of the 26-year-old to move to the European Super League advocates.
“I love Trent as a player, but what is he doing going to Real Madrid?” he said to Poker Scout.
“I know he did his first press conference in Spanish to show that he respects the club, but let me tell you, he will definitely speak English in the changing room!

“I would have thought that he’d stay in Liverpool because he grew up there, but we’re talking about Real Madrid here, who are the biggest club in the world.
"If it’s his dream to go there, then you have to respect that.
