Liverpool’s £29 million summer signing Jeremie Frimpong suffered a frustrating start to his Anfield career, picking up a hamstring injury during the Reds’ 4-2 victory over Bournemouth on the opening day of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The Dutch defender was forced off the pitch in the 60th minute of what turned out to be a dramatic Friday night encounter at Anfield.

Arne Slot would later reveal that the medical team’s decision to substitute Frimpong was a precautionary measure that ultimately proved crucial in preventing a more serious injury.

What initially appeared to be a routine substitution quickly developed into a significant concern, with Frimpong then missing the Reds’ subsequent games against Newcastle United and Arsenal.

The timing couldn’t have been worse for Slot’s men.

With fellow right-back Conor Bradley also recovering from his own hamstring issues and only returning to light training, Liverpool found themselves facing a potential crisis in that position.

And while Dominik Szoboszlai has more than stepped up in the duo’s absence, Arne Slot will want his full retinue of players to choose from sooner rather than later.

Luckily for the Dutchman, it seems Frimpong’s return is imminent.

Lewis Steele, reporting in his Liverpool Confidential, has revealed that Frimpong is in contention to face the Clarets at Turf Moor this weekend:

“Jeremie Frimpong is back in training and is in contention to play at Burnley on Sunday,” the Merseyside journalist reported.

“Frimpong is hoping to be passed fit to play against Burnley on Sunday after returning to training this week.”

“Fellow right back Conor Bradley enjoyed a positive camp for Northern Ireland where they gave Germany and Florian Wirtz a good game.”

“Both right backs being back up to speed is a big boost for Arne Slot.”

For a player who had boasted an impressive injury record at Bayer Leverkusen, the setback represented an unwelcome introduction to English football.

Frimpong’s absence also meant missing international duty with the Netherlands this past September international break.
