Jeremie Frimpong reminded Ibrahima Konate that he had scored against the Frenchman, despite Liverpool's comprehensive 4-0 Champions League victory over Bayer Leverkusen last season.

Frimpong, 24, was the first to bolster the Reds' ranks this summer, making the switch from the Bundesliga outfit.

He has since been joined by former Leverkusen colleague Florian Wirtz, plus the likes of Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike.

Speaking on Liverpool's official YouTube channel, Konate quizzed the defender: "Did they ask you, 'How was the 4-0 at Anfield?'"

With a hint of smugness, Frimpong quickly retorted: "My friend.

After Frimpong reiterated his claim, the central defender recalled the scoreline, momentarily forgetting that the Dutchman did indeed hit the back of the net – albeit from an offside position

Although it didn't stand, for Frimpong, it seemed to be a point of pride.

In their clash at Anfield last term, Slot's side delivered a clinical second-half performance to decisively defeat the German team.
