Liverpool announced the signing of speedster Jeremie Frimpong on Friday, right after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure was made official.
Frimpong had been on the priority list for the Reds for a long time, as the manager always wanted the Dutch right-back at Anfield as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Trent had made his decision to leave Liverpool a long time ago, though it wasn’t very clear until mid-March that this would be his final season at the club.
He joined Real Madrid for a reported €10 million transfer fee, as their new manager Xabi Alonso wanted the right-back before the Club World Cup in June, to be held in the USA.
The Merseyside club triggered Frimpong’s €35 million release clause at Bayer Leverkusen to make him their first signing of the summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool will pay the fee in three annual instalments as part of the agreement with the German side.
After being unveiled as the latest Dutchman in the squad, Frimpong spoke about his excitement to play alongside Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah.

Frimpong said, “It’s a privilege.
Like, I’m gonna be next to Mo Salah.” — highlighting his excitement and admiration for the 2024/25 Premier League Player of the Season.
It’s going to be very interesting to see the Frimpong–Salah duo on the right flank once the new season kicks off in August.
He also added: “Playing with world-class players, as a footballer it’s a great feeling.” — possibly reflecting what Liverpool means to him and his thoughts about joining such an experienced and successful squad.
