Liverpool are steadily building a brilliant body of work during this summer’s transfer window.

The Reds are often criticised by supporters for a perceived unwillingness to do business from a position of strength in the market.

But after Liverpool announced the record signing of Florian Wirtz on Friday, that accusation can no longer be levelled at them.

Wirtz’s arrival is Liverpool’s second of the summer, with former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong already through the door.

With Giorgi Mamardashvili also finally arriving and Milos Kerkez on the verge of joining too, the good times keep on rolling at Anfield.

Regardless of who else joins, though, Wirtz is the clear marquee addition.

And after seeing the German unveiled on Friday, Frimpong offered his own reaction.

Liverpool fans who had been hoping to see Frimpong incorporated into Wirtz’s announcement were left disappointed on Friday.

In hindsight, though, Liverpool were always going to let the most expensive signing in their history have his own moment.

Nevertheless, Frimpong was still liable to get involved somehow, and he made his feelings clear with a word-less post on social media.

The pair were pictured on holiday together on June 17th, with one supporter commenting “moving clubs with your mate must be a top tier feeling,” on the same day.

Coming back to that post on Friday night, Frimpong simply replied with an ‘eyes open’ emoji.

While Frimpong was not present during Wirtz’s media duties on Friday, he did still get a mention from his friend.

Asked whether he had spoken to the Dutchman about their joint move, Wirtz confirmed that it had been a small factor for him.

“I played, I think, three or four years with him [Frimpong],” the German told LFCTV.

“He’s a really good player, a really good person, a really funny guy.

“He was then the first one who signed with Liverpool and of course he wanted me to join as well.

But I think I made my decision by my own, but it was maybe a small part that convinced me in the end as well.”

Liverpool fans won’t have to wait too long to see Frimpong and Wirtz link up together, with pre-season under three weeks away.
