Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, marking the club’s first summer signing ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The Dutch right-back completed his medical and signed a five-year deal at the AXA Training Centre after the Premier League champions activated his €35 million (£29.6m) release clause, paid in three instalments over three years (via The Athletic)
Speaking after his signing, Frimpong said:
“It went quite easy.
Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer.
“Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.” (LiverpoolFC)

Frimpong’s arrival follows the confirmed departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, a move that reportedly brought £10 million in upfront income to the club (as confirmed by LiverpoolFC and reports by SkySports).
With Frimpong’s total transfer fee set at £29.6 million, the effective net spend for his replacement stands at £19.6 million.
However, Liverpool’s sporting department does not view Frimpong as a direct replacement for Alexander-Arnold.
Frimpong joins Liverpool after an impressive stint in Germany.
The 24-year-old played 190 matches for Bayer Leverkusen, tallying 30 goals and 44 assists and was an instrumental figure in their historic Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double in 2023/24.
He was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for two consecutive campaigns (2022/23 and 2023/24) and brings elite-level experience, including Champions League football and international appearances for the Netherlands (12 caps, 1 goal).
His squad number will be revealed later this summer, and he’ll join pre-season preparations with the rest of the squad.
“I won’t let you guys down,” Frimpong promised.
With his track record, energy, and ambition, all signs suggest he won’t.
