Liverpool moved quickly to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen as a replacement for the vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid early to play at the Club World Cup in June.
Frimpong penned a long-term deal with the Reds.
He arrived at Anfield after four-and-a-half seasons in Germany with Leverkusen, where he racked up 190 appearances, scored 30 goals, and produced 44 assists across all competitions.
Frimpong said: “It went quite easy.
Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer.
“For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’
“Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.
“I’m just excited to be here.
Thank you guys for accepting me and I won’t let you guys down and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want.”
The 24-year-old was instrumental for Leverkusen as they made history by winning the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in 2023-24, with their record 51-match unbeaten run ending in the Europa League final.
He was included in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2022-23 and 2023-24, respectively.
Frimpong has been heavily involved in Liverpool’s pre-season preparations as the Premier League champions gear up for the start of next season.
The versatile full-back has featured in all three friendly games for Arne Slot’s side and is set to feature against Yokohama F.
Marinos on Wednesday.
Speaking after Liverpool’s 4-2 defeat to AC Milan, Frimpong said: “Of course.
And we did create some chances but we weren’t clinical enough.”
Frimpong’s move to Liverpool has seen him join a Dutch contingent of Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch at the club.
Describing his Dutch teammates in one word each, Jeremie Frimpong told ESPN: Cody Gakpo is a ‘finisher’, Ryan Gravenberch is ‘tekky’, and Virgil van Dijk is a ‘leader’.
