Jim Ratcliffe has been advised to restrict Ruben Amorim’s spending amid upheaval over Alejandro Garnacho’s cut-price move to Chelsea.

Man United‘s pathetic loss to League Two side Grimsby in the EFL Cup has turned attention to the Portuguese manager not getting the best out of the players both new and old.

Ruben Amorim has been tipped to be sacked by Man United as exclusively told by former chief scout Mick Brown to Football Insider.

Moreover, one of the new additions at Man United Benjamin Sesko was deemed a “coward” after his reluctant penalty kick in the shootout against Grimsby last night (27 August).

His arrival has been timed with the expected sale of Garnacho to Chelsea from Man United for a reported fee between £35-40million, despite the Red Devils holding out for around £50m earlier in the window.

Speaking on talkSPORT (28 August), former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor blasted Amorim and the red half of Manchester’s performance in the EFL Cup.

The forward turned pundit touched on how things will not get better at Old Trafford even with more incomings after heavy spending on the likes of Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Co-presenter Alan Brazil joined the discussion, stating: “If I was the owner [Ratcliffe] I wouldn’t be giving any more money.”

To which the ex-Villain exclaimed: “No way!” after Ratcliffe forked out a hefty amount to revamp Amorim’s attacking frontline.

Agbonlahor then added in regards to the Blues discounted agreement for the United Argentine winger: “I wouldn’t be letting him [Amorim] sell Garnacho for cheap.

“Let’s talk about Chelsea who’ve got a deal sorted for £35-40m.

He’s an £80-90m player when he’s at it.”

Following the likely transfer of the Argentinian to west London, it is becoming ever more apparent that Ratcliffe and the United board are becoming increasingly desperate to sell their unwanted stars.

Given the Red Devils were holding out for a reported £50m, as the transfer window nears its conclusion, United may continue to let their exiled players leave for a cheaper fee.

Amorim’s arrival has shaken up the dressing room even more than was necessary, including casting out the likes of Marcus Rashford and Garnacho due to disagreements.

The club backed the Portuguese this summer with huge spending and it is looking like much of that investment will not be paid off come the end of the season.

Indeed, this is meant to be long project and rebuild, yet it feels like this could be a plan that will never fully work out.

This will likely push the board into trying to recoup some funds, even at a loss on the likes of Rasmus Hojlund as a feeling of desperation fills the air at Old Trafford.
