Renato Veiga’s latest transfer update caught the attention of former teammate Joao Felix as UEFA’s punishment continues to loom over Chelsea.
The Portuguese forward recently joined Al Nassr on a £43.7million deal [BBC Sport], having only joined the Blues permanently in the summer of 2024 for just over £1million more than his new transfer fee.
Despite his big-money exit from Stamford Bridge, that is not set to have any impact on Chelsea‘s fight against UEFA, in their race to balance the books following a summer of spending.
Dan Plumley revealed to Football Insider that Premier League PSR is of no concern to Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side, especially after selling their women’s team to themselves in the form of BlueCo, Todd Boehly’s company.
However, UEFA is still a problem, with their auditors only taking into account the sale of those included in the squad that Maresca submitted for the Europa Conference League knockout stages [Daily Mail], before new signings can be registered in their place.
With that in mind, Veiga’s impending departure will also play zero role in easing the pressure on Chelsea, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus.

Taking to Instagram (20 August), Fabrizio Romano wrote: “HERE WE GO!
Villarreal agree deal in principle to sign Renato Veiga from Chelsea,” with yellow heart and dynamite emojis.

He continued: “Club to club verbal agreement done for 29.5m total package, with add-ons included, plus a sell-on clause.
Renato said yes to Villarreal and will soon travel for medical tests as soon as documents are exchanged.”
In reaction to the transfer update, former teammate Joao Felix, who recently arrived in the Saudi Pro League and scored his first goal against Al Ittihad, liked the post involving Veiga, having been in a very similar situation at Stamford Bridge.
Each signed for Chelsea permanently last summer before growing frustrated with their opportunities in the first half of the campaign, Felix joining AC Milan on loan while Veiga went to Juventus, and now the younger Portuguese looks set to follow his compatriot in making a permanent exit.

Football Insider verdict
Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have been heavily linked with Chelsea exits, but having played key roles in the Blues’ Europa Conference League success, their departures have become even more vital.
Their transfer fees would make a dent in balancing the books for UEFA.
Maresca has made some incredible changes to the squad, with supporters now expecting more success for the 2025/26 campaign after lifting the Conference League and Club World Cup titles.
The Blues are also set to compete in the Champions League, but if Boehly wants to avoid a sanction from UEFA, sales need to start going through much quicker before the 1 September deadline.

It has been a rollercoaster since Maresca took charge at Stamford Bridge, but if the club can overcome this hurdle, there is no predicting how the 2025/26 season could go for them.
Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Tottenham, and Man United have all strengthened over the summer, but with a star-studded lineup now available for the manager, Chelsea have just as much chance of success.
Of course, business might not be done there, with Levi Colwill sidelined for the season, but Maresca has more than enough talent in his squad to deal with the injury blow.
