Joe Gomez has seemingly signalled his intent to stay at Liverpool this summer as Jarell Quansah closes in on a £35m move to Bayer Leverkusen.

While Virgil van Dijk signed a new contract with the Reds back in April, the future of all three of their other senior centre-backs had been uncertain.

Ibrahima Konate is out of contract at the end of the season and reportedly of interest to both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, Quansah had found opportunities limited under Arne Slot and now looks set to leave for the Bundesliga.

Gomez, who is Liverpool’s longest-serving player, nearly left the club last summer in a £45m move to Newcastle United.

He was left out of the Reds matchday squad at the start of the season amid uncertainty about his future and had to wait until the end of September to make his first Premier League appearance of the campaign.

Gomez started 11 of his 17 appearances for the Reds last season, with only nine of his outings coming in the English top-flight, before a hamstring injury ruled him out for virtually the entirety of the second half of the campaign.

His Anfield future had been the subject of speculation.

But in an emotional message on social media, Gomez thanked supporters when marking his 10th anniversary since joining Liverpool, hinting he would prefer to remain at the club this summer.

"10 years ago as a kid moving from south east London to Liverpool, I couldn’t even imagine looking this far into the future,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Looking back now I’m full of gratitude & take so much pride in being a part of this club and city.

"No denying the challenges along the way, but embracing them to grow as both a player and a person is something I’ve always tried to do & I’m grateful for all the support in trying to do that.

“It’s been a blessing to be a part of the different dressing rooms and getting to create such special memories over the years with so many great players & staff.

"I felt it was important to share my thanks to you all for the support throughout the years, it’s always meant the world and I will never take it for granted.

“A decade in red… and still hungry to keep going.”

With Quansah set to leave the club, the ECHO understands that Liverpool are now prioritising a young centre-back to replace the England Under-21 international.

However, they are also admirers of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who is entering the final 12 months of his contract and could be signed for a cut-price fee.
