Joe Gomez is attracting attention from plenty of Premier League sides this summer despite his injury-ridden 2024/25 campaign.
Despite a promising start under Slot, a recurring hamstring problem and subsequent setbacks ultimately defined his season.
Gomez sustained a hamstring injury in late December during Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham United, forcing him off at half-time and sidelining him “for a while,” according to manager Arne Slot at the time.
Scans later confirmed the need for surgery, initiating a lengthy rehabilitation process.
After returning to full training in February, Gomez was back in the team for the Emirates FA Cup tie at Plymouth Argyle on February 9.
His comeback, however, coincided with a shock 1-0 defeat, and he left the field injured again after just 11 minutes.
The recurrence of his hamstring issue necessitated further surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Unfortunately for Gomez, he has suffered injury setbacks throughout his time at Liverpool, including knee surgery in 2020 and hamstring setbacks in successive seasons.
Each time he got a run of games, misfortune struck, frustrating both player and club and limiting him to sporadic appearances.
But that has not dissuaded potential suitors, however.
The Guardian has named no less than seven Premier League sides interested in the defender.
Furthermore, it’s claimed that the Anfield club could let the 28-year-old leave for as little as £30m, with reporter Barry Glendenning revealing:
“Liverpool are believed to be willing to let Joe Gomez leave Anfield this summer and there are no shortage of suitors for the England international.”
“Sunderland, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham, Leeds, and Burnley have formed a disorderly queue for the 28-year-old who is valued at £30m.”
Although his next destination remains uncertain, Gomez’s blend of top-flight experience and proven versatility suggests he will have his pick of teams interested.
Whether he opts for guaranteed playing time at a mid-table side or challenges himself at a club with European ambitions, the England defender enters the market with plenty to prove – and much to gain.
