Bruno Guimaraes has vowed that Newcastle United will bounce back from their last-gasp defeat to Liverpool at St.

James’ Park.

Eddie Howe‘s side won hearts, minds and everything but points in their Premier League clash, which took place against the backdrop of Alexander Isak’s continued push for a move to Liverpool this summer.

Football Insider revealed on 22 August that Isak’s transfer saga has split the Newcastle dressing room, but Guimaraes reaffirmed his loyalty to the Magpies before leading Howe’s side out at St.

James’ Park.

Newcastle‘s 3-2 loss came in challenging circumstances which were exacerbated by Anthony Gordon‘s red card and injuries to Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Fabian Schar, but Guimaraes still managed to put in a man-of-the-match effort.

The Magpies were already 1-0 down to Ryan Gravenberch’s long-range strike before Gordon was sent off for a late lunge on Virgil van Dijk, and Hugo Ekitike doubled Liverpool‘s lead straight after half-time.

However, Guimaraes’ 57th-minute header inspired 10-man Newcastle to a late rally, which looked to have culminated with substitute William Osula‘s equaliser two minutes from time all-but securing a point.

Rio Ngumoha may have had other ideas and won it for Liverpool at the death, but Guimaraes was defiant in his post on Instagram at full-time after collecting the man of the match award in Newcastle’s defeat.

In a message liked by both Osula and Joelinton, who Newcastle fear is facing a spell on the sidelines after he limped out of the Monday night clash, Guimaraes posted:

“Mixed feelings.

Howay the lads.”

Football Insider Verdict

Although they played more than half of Monday’s match with just 10 men, Newcastle dominated large portions of their clash with Liverpool in a display which will give Howe plenty of encouragement.

Osula’s late goal suggests he’s an option to play through the middle, but Gordon’s upcoming three-game ban leaves Howe with even fewer options through the middle as the standoff with Isak continues.

Football Insider revealed that Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen will cost £60million after Newcastle saw a £50m bid rejected, but with the last week of the transfer window upon them, the time is now for Howe to finalise his plans in the market.
