John Arne Riise says Manchester United's dependency on Bruno Fernandes will prevent them from going the distance in the Premier League title race this season.

United's 1-0 victory over Burnley on Tuesday took them above Liverpool into top spot, which represents the first time since 2013 - the year of their last title win - that they have led the standings after the New Year.

United have the opportunity to go six points above their bitter rivals Liverpool with a win at Anfield on Sunday, but ex-Reds left-back Riise is backing his former side to come out on top.

Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes at its launch of the 5-A-Side Bet on Liverpool v Man United, Riise said: 'I think both teams will be thinking they can hurt Sunday's opponents by taking advantage of their defence, which makes for a great game.

Riise feels United's overreliance on Fernandes means they will not be challenging for the title alongside City and Liverpool come the end of the season.

'Man United are very reliant on Bruno Fernandes' Riise added.

'Man City and Liverpool have so many players who can carry the team; Man United only have one.
