Henry and the rest of the Fenway Sports Group leadership group have offered their ‘sincere and heartfelt condolences’ to Diogo Jota’s loved ones after the Portuguese was killed in a car accident.

The 28-year-old died in the early hours of Thursday morning (July 3) along with his brother, Andre Silva.

The pair had been travelling in the Zamora region of Sanabria when their vehicle veered off the road.

It is understood the vehicle suffered a tyre blowout when heading towards Benavente, with Zamora News reporting that emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 1am on Thursday morning.

?According to the Zamora provincial council, firefighters attended the scene on the A52, known as the Palacios de Sanabria, after the Lamborghini the pair were travelling in caught fire.

Police said the accident happened at 12.30am.

Liverpool FC released an official club statement on Thursday morning, confirming Jota’s death.

FSG CEO of Football, Michael Edwards, and LFC sporting director Richard Hughes then released a statement of their own on Thursday evening on the club website, revealing plans to honour the forward, followed by a further statement from head coach Arne Slot.

Henry, Billy Hogan, Tom Werner and Mike Gordon have now released a statement of their own as they offered their ‘sincere and heartfelt condolences’ to the family and friends of both Jota and Silva, and admitted they had been 'left numb with grief'.

It read: “On behalf of the leadership teams at Liverpool Football Club and Fenway Sports Group, we offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our number 20, Diogo Jota, and his brother Andre Silva.

“This tragic situation and the reality of it is truly shocking, devastating and has left us numb with grief.

Our thoughts, prayers and support are with them all.

“We all know what Diogo could do on the field of play and the vital role he played in our successes since he joined this club in 2020.

Diogo was a loving father, son, husband and brother, and we, and everyone who knew him, will miss him deeply as we all try to process the enormity of today.

“Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre.
