Aston Villa star Youri Tielemans shared a heartfelt message on social media whilst on international duty away from the club’s struggles.

Aston Villa have had a tough start to the season as they are yet to score a single goal, with Unai Emery’s side sitting in 19th in the Premier League table.

Tielemans was a shining light for Aston Villa in their latest defeat to Brentford, though his performances have not yet translated into vital wins for Unai Emery’s side.

With the international break providing a pause in domestic action, Emery now has time to reassess his squad and address the early problems.

Tielemans, meanwhile, has marked an important step with his national team and shared a message with supporters as he prepares for the upcoming fixtures.

As players are now away with their national teams, mainly for the World Cup qualifiers, Tielemans reposted an emotional message he said in his latest press conference, after he was officially named Belgium captain.

The Aston Villa midfielder shared the news on Instagram, reposting a message from his latest press conference where he said: “I’m incredibly proud to wear the captain’s armband for the national team.

As a footballer, I truly believe there are few greater honours.”

His post saw reaction from across the footballing world, with Villa teammate John McGinn and former teammates Leon Bailey and Ricardo Pereira all liking the message.

He was a key figure for Villa last term and was recognised for his outstanding performances, as Tielemans was named Aston Villa’s Player of the Year.

He’s had a memorable few months as Tielemans hit 75 caps with Belgium back in June, and has reached over 100 appearances for his club since the start of the new season.

Back at Villa Park, the international break may have come at the right time for Emery, who is facing growing pressure just three games into the season.

Former club scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Emery is fighting for his job at Aston Villa following a poor start to the season.

The club’s financial situation had also raised issues behind the scenes, with the side also having an underwhelming transfer window.

With crucial fixtures ahead against Everton and Brentford, followed by the start of their Europa League campaign, Emery’s position could come under even more scrutiny if results fail to improve.
