Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson could be in line for a sensational Premier League return after reports that Sunderland are considering re-signing the 34-year-old.
The midfielder was in England last week for the Championship play-off final and to watch the Reds lift the Premier League title.
Liverpool signed the England international from the Black Cats in 2011 after he rose through the ranks at the Academy of Light before making the switch to the North West.
Sunderland ended their spell away from England's top-tier after they claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Wembley.
Henderson could be in line for the Anfield farewell that he never had after he made the call to leave for Al-Ettifaq in July 2023.

It has been said that there is a belief that Henderson's arrival would inject valuable experience into the squad.
The midfielder, who will turn 35 next month, has one year on his contract at Ajax - who lost out on the Eredivisie title on the final day of the season following a poor run of form which saw them surrender a nine-point lead.

Henderson has also been reintegrated back into the England senior squad following Thomas Tuchel's arrival.
The German called up the 34-year-old in his first squad and continued to name the midfielder in the list of call-ups for the forthcoming round of international fixtures in June.
TalkSPORT also reported that Henderson could reunite with Steven Gerrard after the Liverpool legend was the subject of links with the vacant Rangers role.
It was suggested that he could join Gerrard at Ibrox as one of his assistants after reports of a Glasgow return intensified.
The radio station's Jim White claimed earlier this month: "Now we understand here this morning at talkSPORT that behind the scenes, the managerial situation is moving at a pace.
"The interim manager Barry Ferguson will be leaving with thanks but back to the football club will come Steven Gerrard, former manager of the club - the man who won them the Scottish Premier League title.
