Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson shared a heartfelt message to Sunderland supporters after making his return to the Stadium of Light.
Brentford have seen a summer exodus at the club with Keith Andrews taking over from Thomas Frank, and multiple key players also leaving the side, such as Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard.
The Bees have also brought in a number of new arrivals with Dango Ouattara signing from Bournemouth, while talks are ongoing over a potential loan move for Reiss Nelson.
Another signing that was completed earlier in the window was Henderson, signed to help fill the void left by Norgaard following his exit.
Meanwhile, Brentford’s latest outing was a 2-1 loss away to Sunderland, a match that held particular significance for Henderson.
The midfielder came through Sunderland’s academy before shaping a career at the very top level and received a warm reception on his return.
He later expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt message.
Despite Wilson Isidor scoring a last-minute winner against Henderson’s current side, the Englishman still posted an emotional message to Sunderland supporters.
On his Instagram story, Henderson reposted an image from Sunderland’s official account that read: “Back where it all began”.
Forever in my heart.”
Henderson came through Sunderland’s academy before leaving for Liverpool in 2011, where he went on to captain the club.
Football Insider revealed that Sunderland explored a deal for Henderson back in the January window, but after their promotion, the Black Cats focused elsewhere.
Sunderland signed the likes of Granit Xhaka and Habib Diarra to replace the departing Jobe Bellingham, who joined Borussia Dortmund, while the Bees made a move instead for Henderson.

Despite a number of key players already leaving the Gtech Community Stadium, the saga regarding Yoane Wissa appears to finally be over.
Reports have revealed that Newcastle have agreed a fee for Wissa from Brentford in the region of £55 million.
The forward had been pushing for a move to St James’ Park in recent weeks, and with Liverpool making a breakthrough in their pursuit of Alexander Isak, a domino effect has allowed Newcastle to finalise their deal for Wissa.
