It’s easy to forget that Jordan Henderson was still a Liverpool player last season – So much has happened in-between his Anfield exit and now.
As club captain, he’s led Liverpool to numerous triumphs, including the coveted Premier League title in 2020 – ending a 30-year wait- and the UEFA Champions League in 2019.
Jurgen Klopp’s eyes and ears on the pitch, Jordan Henderson was everything you wanted in a Liverpool skipper.
His best characteristics were undoubtedly his remarkable work ethic, leadership, and resilience, Henderson epitomizes the heart and spirit of Liverpool.
While some of his critics would highlight his alleged technical deficiencies, you still have to be a good footballer to lead a Premier League and Champions League-winning side.
Henderson came into pre-season looking like he was in the best shape of his life ahead of 2023/24.
However, the signings of midfield reinforcements in the shape of Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister spelt the end of his 12-year stay on Merseyside.
The 32-year-old opted to sign for Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq, which proved an ill-fated decision as he ended up back in Europe with Ajax less than six months into his Saudi Arabia venture.
While it was a bit unexpected from the fan’s perspective, the ex-Liverpool skipper believed that a lack of predicted minutes forced him out of the club – despite the financial incentives of the Saudi Pro-League boasted.
At Ajax, the former Liverpool man has been well received, breaking some sale records with his personal merchandise.
He has also made 9 appearances across all competitions for the Dutch giants since his January transfer.
Jordan Henderson returns to Liverpool
The Liverpool legend was spotted at the AXA Training Centre recently as reported Mike Keegan.
It is believed that he was at the club’s training ground to be put through his paces, with a special focus being put on endurance.
The 33-year-old a one-one-training session, and his presence were said to have delighted a youth team from Ireland who were at the facility to play against their Liverpool counterparts.
Jordan Henderson will no doubt hold out hopes of making the England squad for the upcoming European championships in Germany, likely his last attempt at winning a major tournament with his nation.
Hopefully any additional training with the assistance of Liverpool’s facilities and staff help him realize that goal.
