The England international had been linked with multiple Premier League clubs, including Nottingham Forest and boyhood side Sunderland.

However, Henderson has chosen Brentford where he will work under new head coach Keith Andrews in the forthcoming season.

The 2019 Champions League-winning captain pens a two-year deal with the Bees over the course of the weekend and will be immediately reunited with former Reds teammate Caoimhin Kelleher who moved to the club earlier in the window.

He will also reunite with two more former Liverpool players in Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho.

"Caoimhin isn’t in [training] yet, but I’ve spoken to Sepp and Fáb a bit, along with the rest of the lads.

It’s nice to have a few familiar faces, for sure," Henderson said.

"They’re great lads that I got on really well with at Liverpool, so that’s been nice for us to settle in."

Henderson rejected the opportunity to try his hand at another European giant with FC Porto interested in the midfielder.

Francesco Farioli, Henderson’s former boss at Ajax, was recently handed the reigns at the Portuguese club and was keen on continuing his alliance with the star.

Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel brought Henderson back into the international set-up for March’s qualifiers where he won his 84th cap in the 1-0 win in Andorra.

Henderson left Liverpool in 2023 to join Steven Gerrard at Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq.

However, the move lasted just six months with Henderson and his family keen to return to Europe.

He did so in January 2024, penning an 18-month deal with Ajax where he went on to captain the side in his final season.

talkSPORT understands that he could not return to the Premier League before July 1 because of his Saudi tax deal.

Henderson came under fire from sections of the Dutch press during the winter transfer window when he was heavily linked with a move to French side Monaco.

The move failed to transpire and Henderson later hit back at reporters who he claimed had written 'lies' and 'painful untruths' about the switch.

On the pitch, the situation did not improve for Henderson as his Ajax side blew a nine-point lead in the title race in the closing weeks of the season.

The cataclysmic collapse saw rivals PSV Eindhoven leapfrog the Amsterdam club and seal the Eredivisie title on the final day of the season.

Henderson’s move to Brentford will fill the void left by Christian Norgaard who completed his transfer to Arsenal this week.

However, concerns have been raised over his age and whether he can compete week in, week out.

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour told talkSPORT: “He’s got lots of experience.

It’s that recovery between games."

The midfielder will be relieved to have quickly ended his search for a new club in what has been a tumultuous week.

Henderson travelled to Anfield last week to lay flowers in memory of former teammate Diogo Jota who died in a car crash alongside his brother Andre Silva.

He attended the funeral alongside his former Liverpool teammates in Gondomar, Portugal earlier this month.
