Liverpool will face off against their former captain Jordan Henderson next season after it was revealed the 35-year-old is set to sign a two-year deal to join Brentford.

Henderson, who left Liverpool in 2023 to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, recently left Ajax, having opted against extending his contract with the Dutch side.

The former Liverpool captain had been with Ajax since January 2024 following his short stint in Saudi.

While it had been speculated Henderson could be a target for newly promoted Sunderland, his boyhood club and the team he broke through for before signing for Liverpool, it has now been reported the midfielder will sign a two-year-deal with Brentford.

The Athletic's David Ornstein reports Henderson wanted a return to the Premier League, with Brentford having won the race for the former Liverpool midfielder.

Additionally, the announcement of Henderson to Brentford is set to be confirmed next week out of respect for his former teammate Diogo Jota, who sadly passed away recently in a car crash.

Writing on X, Ornstein said: "BREAKING: Jordan Henderson to join Brentford on 2yr deal

Henderson also reportedly had interest from other teams across Europe, but his priority was to return to England

He will complete his medical over the weekend and will be a replacement for the departing Christian Norgaard, who recently joined Arsenal.

And in joining Brentford, the former Liverpool captain will reunite with a number of his ex-Anfield teammates in the form of Caoimhin Kelleher, who joined the Bees earlier this summer, Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho.
